Mesa Community College
Full-time Residential Faculty
Phoenix, Arizona
I was born in Mississippi but spent my formative years in northwest Georgia. As the second child of a Methodist preacher, I moved around a lot early in my life. I suppose the experience established a wanderlust in me that manifests itself from time to time. Come what may, I always try to make the most of my journey. I earned a B.A. in Government at Oberlin College, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing at the University of Alabama, and a Ph.D. in Comparative Cultural and Literary Studies at the University of Arizona. I teach courses in the Humanities, Creative Writing, International Film, American and World Literature, Storytelling, and (it almost goes without saying) First-Year Composition. I am currently designing the curriculum for an Academic Certificate in Game Studies for the Maricopa Community Colleges District, which serves over 40,000 students.
